2015 Board Elections – Meet the Candidates and How to Vote

Candidates for Board of Trustees

We have nine wonderful candidates for our Board of Trustees, including six trustees running for an additional term, and three new candidates. (We have nine open seats on the Board so members can vote for any or all candidates if they wish.) You can read their full bios here. The nominees are:

Trustees Running for Re-election

W. Dale Allen, Florida – Dale has been an ECGA Trustee since 2012. He currently serves as the President of the Florida Greenways and Trails (FGT) Foundation, Florida’s leading advocacy organization for a statewide system of connected off-road and shared-use, paved and hardened-surface trails.

Jacob Dolan_smJacob Dolan, North Carolina – Jacob has served on the ECGA Board of Trustees since 2012, and has been Vice Chair since 2014. He enjoys a lifelong passion for the outdoors which leads him to nurture outdoor stewardship and share this ethos with his daughter through trail building, trail cleaning and volunteering with non-profits.

stevemitchell2Steve Mitchell, Connecticut – Steve is a cyclist and skier who started with the ECGA as an Ambassador in 2007. Since 2009 he has brought his enthusiasm for trails to our Board. Steve is a third-generation auto dealer in Farmington Valley, Connecticut. He truly recognizes that the East Coast Greenway is a network of hundreds of local organizations, involving thousands of volunteers and professionals that will have an impact on millions of people for generations to come.

David Read, Massachusetts – David has served three terms on the ECGA’s Board of Trustees, and has been Chair since 2011. He had a rewarding career managing complex health care organizations and is currently Vice President of Ambulatory Care Operations and Medical Oncology at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. He views trails, and the exercise they can provide, as a wonderful way to help prevent and combat heart disease, diabetes, child obesity and certain types of cancer.

Bob_Russo_smRobert Russo, Treasurer, New Jersey – Robert has served on the ECGA Board as Treasurer since 2010. He is a Certified Public Accountant and managing member of the accounting firm Koenig, Russo & Associates, LLC, where he has worked since 1982. Robert is also an avid day-hiker and has hiked throughout the state of New Jersey.

rspiegelmanRobert Spiegelman, New Hampshire – Bob is our first board member to ride the entire East Coast Greenway from Calais, Maine to Key West, Florida. A retired “entrepreneurial business professional,” Bob has made time over 35 years to serve on non-profit boards when he isn’t on his bike, which he pedals over 10,000 miles on an annual basis.

New Candidates for Board of Trustees

Jean Crowther_smJean Crowther, South Carolina – Jean has more than a decade of experience in planning for active transportation and outdoor recreation throughout the Southeast. As an Associate at Alta Planning + Design, Jean has led a variety of pedestrian and bicycle master plans, trail plans, bike-share studies, and corridor studies around the Southeast. Jean has been enamored with the ECG concept since she first learned about it more than 15 years ago.

Jason LaneJason Lane, Washington – Jason is an Outdoor Programs Manager at REI, managing their community partnerships, sponsorships, stewardship programs, and educational programs in the East-Coast region from New England to Florida. Jason is a lifelong cyclist and advocate for access to quality trails for all. As a native of the Southeast, he has a deep-rooted passion for physically linking communities together and improving access to outdoor recreation throughout the region.

Catherine McCaw, New York – Catherine graduated from Harvard Law School in 2009 and currently serves as an Assistant District Attorney in New York County. She is an avid cyclist who first got her start cycling as a bicycle commuter in New York City.  She fell in love with the way that cycling allowed her to explore places new and familiar and to get some exercise at the same time.  Catherine became interesting in bicycle touring following a tour in France, where she was impressed by the the safe cycling infrastructure.  She would like to serve on the ECGA board in order to help expand this kind of infrastructure at home.
