On October 2, over 500 people braved cold and dreary conditions to ogle bikes, geek out over tubing, lugs, geometry, components, and paint at the East Coast Greenway Alliance’s most unique annual fundraising event.
The New England Builders’ Ball is a celebration and exhibition of North American-made bicycles and bicycle-related components and accessories. The event takes place in a setting small enough to ask questions and engage with one’s bike-builder heroes.
As in other years, the fifth annual Builders’ Ball was held in Providence, RI. This year, the event took place at the elegant and historic Roger Williams Park Casino.
In addition to exhibits of hand-made bicycles, innovative gadgets, and accessories, the Ball featured a roller-racing competition, the presentation of elite cyclo-cross racers from the Providence KMC Cyclo-Cross Festival, and great raffle prizes from 2015 sponsor, Shimano.
The Ball is a great time for bike enthusiasts and raises funds for the ECGA. It also presents a valuable outreach and visibility opportunity for both the East Coast Greenway and the Alliance.
As part of the KMC Providence Cyclo-Cross Festival, the Ball also connects the ECGA with cycling’s fastest growing and most family-oriented cycling discipline – cyclocross.
The Ball is a great setting for sharing knowledge about the East Coast Greenway with important and new audiences that include corporate sponsors, elite athletes, and cycling enthusiasts of all ages from New England and beyond.
The ECGA extends a big thank you to our 2015 sponsor, Shimano; beverage sponsors, Harpoon Brewing, Artisan Beverage Cooperative, and Independent Fermentations; event photographer, Wil Mathews Photo; and to the KMC Cyclo-cross Festival. Big thanks also, to our amazing volunteers – including those from RIBike and Women Bike RI.
The biggest thanks, of course, go to the talented exhibitors who choose to support the Ball and the East Coast Greenway through this participation. A full list of 2015 exhibitors can be found on the Builders’ Ball website.
