D. Peters Wilborn, Jr.

Peter Wilborn joined the Board of Trustees in November 2006.

Peter is a managing partner and head of labor practice at the Charleston, SC firm of Derfner, Altman, and Wilborn. He focuses on civil rights, labor, consumer, and election law and has received numerous awards for civil rights and other community work. Peter also served as Assistant Legal Officer for the International Commission of Jurists in Geneva Switzerland. He received his PhD from the University of Michigan Law School and a BA from Tufts University.

Peter also provides legal representation and accident advice to cycling groups and cyclists and helps increase awareness of cyclists' rights. He has served as executive board member and counsel for Charleston Moves since 2004, and prior to that served as secretary and counsel for the Charleston Bicycle Advocacy Group, a citizens group advocating alternative transportation modes. He is a daily bicycle commuter and an experienced bicycle tourist with extensive experience in Europe. Peter is a member of several cycling organizations and the sponsor of a local bicycle racing team.
