Cabot Tour – the details for our ride

People are welcome to join the three thru-riders for our Miami to Portland, Maine Cabot Community Tour from May 12th to July 7th! You can ride with the group through your town, your state or even region. Do let us know ASAP if you plan to join!

To participate, you must be a current ECGA member. Please download and fill out this registration form and waiver and email it to info@greenway.org.  Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent to participate.  If you aren’t yet a member of the ECGA, you can easily join through our website.  Please contact Debbie at debbie@greenway.org or 919-797-0619 if you have questions your membership or how to register for the tour.

ImageLimited support is provided for riders on this tour, included some luggage towing on a first-come, first-serve basis. There will be a bicycle mechanic riding with the tour.

Riders will leave at 8 or 8:30 AM each day depending on heat. Ride details (hotels and meetup locations) will be provided to registered riders.

Daily ride maps sheets are available here (click on the ridewithgps.com links in the maps to view cue sheets). Additional dates will be posted soon.

We welcome you to join other riders in making your participation a fundraiser for the East Coast Greenway Alliance (you can downoad our fundraising tips and sample letter here.)

Greetings from Maine!! I am interested in jumping in the Tour in Fredericksburg VA. on June 9th. and travel to Portland, ME.(actually I plan to ride home from Portland as well). I am confused about where to RSVP for that??
I know we are responsible for our own housing along the way, how common is it for people to be willing to share expenses interms of accomodationis?

  2. Very nice, Vicki!
This site is the place to register. Please see the first paragraph and click on the registration form there. We don’t see you listed as a current ECG member, so please join us and then fill out the registration. I believe some riders may be interested in sharing costs, but don’t have a complete list yet. We can help share info so you can touch base with other riders regarding accomodations-sharing.

    Looking forward to it!

    -Dennis of ECGA

Dennis… I just became a member and plan to ride the Cabot Ride at least through the state of Georgia… I have my accomodations already figured out… Do I just bring the waiver and registration form with me or should I send it in to someone ahead of time? Thanks… Basil in Georgia

      1. Excellent, Basil!

I have friends that would like to join the ride in Charleston, SC, but I can’t find a link to the departure time or location for May 26 and Charleston. Please direct me to the entire route including stops, schedule, arrival and departure times. Thank you.

    1. Hi Suzanne,

We’re providing the full schedule with ride start locations and hotel information to riders who’ve registered. We just posted a link to the daily maps and cue sheets, so you can get a sense of the ride route each day to see if you’d like to register. We hope y’all can join us!

      1. Suzanne says:

Many thanks. Are you posting photographs taken along the route from Miami to Maine? Is there a Facebook page dedicated to that?

  4. Kathleen Marone says:

I just looked through the itinerary for the ride and noticed that it stops at the end of June in Virginia. What is the schedule through July? When is the ride through my state, Connecticut?

    1. We’ll be sharing the last four weeks of the tour’s turn-by-turn directions as soon as possible. We’ll be passing through CT June 25th-28th. Thanks for checking-in Kathleen!

I look forward to following the progress of the tour and ride! Have a safe and fun trip to all those participating! Being disabled and awaiting another surgery I really enjoy watching/seeing activities like this!

    1. Thank you so much, Jody!
We’ll be thinking of you and hope your next surgery goes well. Our goal is to make the whole trail ADA accessible – a goal that will take time but we are making big progress on.

      Onwards!

    1. They just passed through, Deborah.

Thank you for the offer and we’ll try to take you up on it for our next tour! To continued greenway progress-

    Greetings,
is this an annual tour? I will be interested in joining the ride in 2013 from West Palm Beach, Fl., also is there any kind of support or guide, or everyone taking care of their own accommodations, hotels, food, etc.? Please advise. Thanks.
    Ed Baquero

    1. Ed,

This type of tour will probably take place every two or three years as our route gets better and better. We would love for you to join us in West Palm Beach and will be in touch before our next round. Individuals generally take care of their own accommodations but we provide routing info and get discounts for the hotel stays.

We also have day- and week-long rides along the ECG that we’ll keep you in the loop on.

To a safe, healthy, & sustainable future,

      Dennis

just looked at your ride map for my area (RI) & i’m wondering if you’re: A – planning on adhering to what the map says (ride on roads), or 2 – planning to ride on our wonderful greenway but you had to make the map show road travel because the map doesn’t recognize bike paths. i definitely recommend the greenway. we have an EC Greenway organization but if you’re not hooked up with them, i’d happily help you.

    1. Hi! Thanks for commenting. On Friday, the riders will be following the ECG from the CT line to the northern end of the Cranston Bikepath, near the Providence line. Some of the Coventry Greenway is currently closed, so it cannot be used between Ayoho Rd and Station St, but the remainder of the rail-trail in Coventry, West Warwick, Warwick, and Cranston will be used. On Monday, as the Cabot riders head from Providence to Worcester, all completed parts of the Blackstone River Bikeway will be used, in Lincoln, Cumberland, and Woonsocket, as well as on-road sections in Providence, Pawtucket, and Central Falls. We hope that you can make it to the Cabot festival on July 1 in Roger Williams Park, at the Temple to Music! Lots of good stuff planned, including live music, cooking demos, Big Nazo puppets, and much more!
