2006 Board Member Elections and Bylaw Changes
ECGA members are encouraged to vote in our annual elections of Trustees and changes to bylaws. On November
4th, 2006, from 5:00-6:00 PM, we will hold our annual meeting to vote on new Board Members and Bylaw changes.
There are three ways to vote:
1. Attend our Annual Meeting and vote in person. The meeting is on November 4th from 5:00-6:00 PM in Baltimore, MD
2. Download and print the ballot and mail it to our office. Ballots must be received by Alliance headquarters by 11/2/06 to be counted.
3. Call our office at 401-789-4625 and request a ballot by mail. Again, ballots must be received by Alliance headquarters by 11/2/06 to be counted.
Board of Trustees Nominations
There are four openings on our Board of Trustees. If you have suggestions for other nominees, email us.
The following persons are presented by our Board Nominating Committee for three-year terms on the Board of Trustees, beginning January 1, 2007:
Tony Barrett
Tony is seeking to continue his prior board role. A retired Amoco Corporation executive and geologist with a BA and MBA from the University of Chicago,
he served in the Middle East as Vice President, General Manger of Finance and Administration, and Vice President of
Negotiations. With over 20 years of experience in managing complex business projects, Tony has demonstrated leadership
in negotiations, advocacy, government relations, and development.
Tony is an avid cyclist and hiker who has served in various leadership positions on the Board of Trustees of the East Coast Greenway Alliance,
and currently serves as Board Secretary. He represents Maine and serves as the Secretary of our
Trail Council as well. Tony served for five years as Chair of the Maine Committee for the ECG and also sits on the Appalachian Trail Conservancy Trail Stewardship Council
David Read
David Read is the Chief Operating Officer of the University of Pennsylvania Health System's Department of Medicine in Philadelphia.
Prior to joining the University, David served as Administrative Director at Massachusetts General Hospital, and earlier was Business
Manager at New England Deaconess Hospital, and a Health Sciences Instructor at Northeastern University.
David holds an MPH from Harvard University and an MBA from Boston College.
David was (and still is) an active advocate for trails along Boston's North Shore, including the Bike to Boston Trail. Despite his recent move to
Philadelphia, he returns to Topsfield, MA for key trail meetings.
David is an avid cyclist and has helped raise over $400,000 for the St. Jude Children's Hospital's
Scenic Bike Tour over the past 10 years. He has a strong background in management, marketing, policy, finance, and planning.
D. Peters Wilborn, Jr
Peter is a managing partner and head of labor practice at the Charleston, SC firm of Derfner, Altman, and Wilborn.
He focuses on civil rights, labor, consumer, and election law and has received numerous awards for civil rights and other community work.
Peter also served as Assistant Legal Officer for the International Commission of Jurists in Geneva Switzerland. He received his PhD
from the University of Michigan Law School and a BA from Tufts University.
Peter also provides legal representation and accident advice to cycling groups and cyclists and helps increase awareness of
cyclists' rights. He has served as executive board member and counsel for Charleston Moves since 2004, and prior to that
served as secretary and counsel for the Charleston Bicycle Advocacy Group, a citizens group advocating alternative transportation modes. He is a daily bicycle commuter and an experienced
bicycle tourist with extensive experience in Europe. Peter is a member of several cycling organizations and the sponsor of a local bicycle racing team.
