Rider:
David Wood,
Hallowell, ME

Dave, 67, is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire with a BSME degree, a retired Professional Engineer, a native of Cape Cod, and an active outdoors person who lives in Hallowell, Maine. He loves nature and the quiet sports (bicycling, canoeing, hiking, snowshoeing, X-C skiing, and just walking in the woods). His 88-year-old dad, two children, and seven grandchildren ride bicycles. Thanks for visiting! Please support Dave's fundraising ride on the ECG. Please read the rest of this page, and click the "support" button to give online with a credit card.

....................

He started cycling again in his late forties after cycling off and on since he was a teenager. Reading about mountain bikes in the early eighties sparked his interest for a bike he could ride anywhere, including the dirt roads where he lived at the time. He presently has a mountain bike geared for touring rather than hard-core mountain biking. He also has a recumbent, which he prefers to ride on flat roads and in an occasional parade. Dave is a member of the Bicycle Coalition of Maine, East Coast Greenway Alliance, Eastern Trail Alliance, League of American Cyclists, Friends of the Kennebec River Rail Trail, Adventure Cycling Association, Appalachian Mountain Club, Maine Outdoor Adventure Club, Abnaki Ski & Outing Club, National/Maine Audubon Society, and Pine Tree State Arboretum.
He enjoys scenic bike rides exploring the beauty of Maine, but one of his lifetime goals is to bike across the country. His longest ride so far (this is his 10th year) has been the Trek Across Maine (a 180-mile, 3-day ride to raise money for the Maine chapter of the American Lung Association). When the ECG opportunity came up, he jumped at the chance to be part of the first group to ride from Maine to Florida.

The East Coast Greenway is coming together as a 2600-mile trail connecting cities of the east coast for bicyclists, walkers, and other non-motorized users. The effort began in 1991, and today the route is 20% complete as off-road trail, the remainder on-road for the time being. By working with local, state and national agencies and organizations, the East Coast Greenway Alliance is making progress every day to grow the trail.

Dave needs your support for the ECG, which will connect communities down the whole east coast. The ECG will be a wonderful off-road, safe pathway for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy. Please support this great trail by donating (in Dave's name) online or by sending a check directly to the ECG. The ECG is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and your donation is tax deductible.

Thank you for your support.
