Georgia Committee for the East Coast Greenway
The Georgia Committee for the ECG consists of volunteers who coordinate route selection and undertake advocacy efforts to create the Coastal Georgia Greenway in conjunction with the East Coast Greenway. By building support and partnerships with citizens, public agencies, and organizations at the local and state levels, the GA Committee is helping to get the CGG and the ECG on the ground, mile by mile.

The Steering Committee for the Coastal Georgia Greenway Committee is currently working on several goals:
- Continuing to develop leadership for Greenways. One means of this is the SNF-WOW (Savannah-Northeast Florida Workshop on Wheels) bike tour that took place in January 2009, bringing leaders from coastal Georgia to learn about trails development by touring Northeast Florida trails and meeting with local advocates.
- Establishment of Coastal Georgia Greenway, Inc as a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit to raise private sector funds and administer grants for construction of trails for which funding is available.
- Raise private sector funds to hire two staff members, one for fundraising and the other for project administration.
The Georgia Committee consists of volunteers who dedicated their time and resources to advocate for the creation of local trails. Please help the Committee create the ECG in Georgia by volunteering your time, becoming a member or sponsoring a mile of trail.
Recent accomplishments in Georgia include:
- Application and approval of $500,000 Transportation Enhancement grants and local matches for phase I of the Highlander Trail in McIntosh County (Darien to Sapelo Island)
- Maiden voyage of the St. Marys - Fernandina Beach water taxi, providing an essential link across the St. Marys River into Florida. Regular service should begin shortly.
- Development of a vital core of supporters throughout the coast but most notably in Camden County, to support acquisition and development of our spine route.
- Formation of new bicycle advocacy group, Savannah Bicycle Campaign, developed through connection of cyclists involved in Chatham County's Greenway efforts. The Campaign served as a host committee for Stage I of Tour de Georgia, which allowed a very well received meeting with Georgia Lt. Governor Casey Cagle.
The Georgia Committee currently needs volunteers to:
- Attend local planning meetings, usually held quarterly, to learn about the challenges of each local area.
- Talk with local government about the need for development of trails funded but not built, notably in Chatham County (Truman Linear Park phase II and S&O Canal Trail into Triplett Park), Liberty County (trailheads at Riceboro Creek and Leconte Woodmanston) and McIntosh County (Highlander Phase I).
- Ask city councils and county commissions for an update on the status of the Coastal Georgia Greenway/East Coast Greenway in your region.
- Watch for formation of CGG, Inc nonprofit and assist in capital campaign.
