Delaware currently has three trails designated as East Coast Greenway: the Christina Riverwalk in Wilmington, the New Castle Riverfront Greenway, and the James F. Hall Trail in Newark.

In Delaware, the East Coast Greenway is being implemented through a partnership with the Delaware Department of Transportation, New Castle County, and local governments along the route. Major segments of Delaware's off-road route have been completed, and many others are in the process of being implemented in conjuction with larger transportation improvements, land use development activity and economic development projects. Beyond our network of completed pathways and on-road routes, all Delaware buses have been equipped with bike racks to link transit with cycling facilities.

The total population in New Castle County, Delaware is 523,860; of this, 243,704 people or 47% of the County's population live within 1 to 1.5 miles of the East Coast Greenway. The Delaware Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan found that 90% of New Castle County residents participate in walking or jogging and 62 percent of those in northern New Castle County participate in bicycling. Sixty pecent of respondents said that funding for bicycle and pedestrian pathways is a very important priority. These numbers indicate high support for the East Coast Greenway and a potential to attrach a significant portion of New Castle County residents as trail users.
