Don't Miss the "Tour" in Touring

There are a surprising variety of Points of Interest listed here. A courthouse in continuous use for 280 years. The SS United States retired passenger liner, which still holds the speed record for Atlantic crossing. Lovely riverfront parks for picnics. A submarine and Admiral Dewey's flagship are open for tours. And of course, Independence Mall — home of the Liberty Bell, Betsy Ross' house, Ben Franklin's print shop, and much more. You'll find many rewards for planning some time during your trip to rest and explore.

You can also do a little gastronomic touring along this route. Eastern Pennsylvania was settled by waves of immigrants from Sweden, England, Germany, Italy, and other countries. You can sample ethnic foods at every stop if you plan for it. Soft pretzels and Philly Cheese Steaks are not the only "authentic" local fare. Hopefully this Trail Guide will help you optimize your meal strategy — and all other aspects of your adventure along the East Coast Greenway.

Enjoy!
