Mid-Atlantic update, December 2016

Cyclists took a 30-mile ride on favorite trails around Washington, DC, in early December with representatives from East Coast Greenway, September 11th National Memorial Trail, Capital Trails Coalition, and the Washington Area Bicyclist Association. The cyclists experienced some of the Mount Vernon Trail, Metropolitan Branch Trail, and rode along the new section of the Anacostia River Trail while hearing about the process for closing trail gaps in the region.

Next quarterly meeting of New York Committee of the ECGA
The New York Committee for the East Coast Greenway Alliance consists of volunteers who coordinate route selection and undertake advocacy efforts to move the Greenway ahead in New York. The committee’s next meeting, open to all, is Wednesday, January 4, 2017, 4-6 pm. The group meets at NYC Parks Department’s Arsenal West, 24 West 61st Street, 4th Floor. The agenda includes:

  • discussion of East Coast Greenway routing in Westchester, NY/western CT. Conn DOT’s Merritt Parkway Multi-Use Trail Feasibility Study is expected to be released by year’s end
  • planning for bike rides and other local events in 2017
  • participation in civic activities in NYC, Westchester County, and New York State.
Dustin Sangrey won a Phat Cycles Bomber 1 from our Philadelphia Bike Expo raffle in November. Sangrey picked up his prize with his daughter, Annika, at the King of Prussia, PA, REI store, where he met East Coast Greenway Alliance Trustee Don Miller (at left).
