Amtrak Northeast Corridor (NEC) Public Hearings Held in 10 East Coast Greenway Cities

East Coast Greenway Alliance New England Coordinator, Molly Henry, using Amtrak's NEC bicycle roll-on serviceIn December and January, the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) held public hearings regarding Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor (NEC) in Boston, New Haven, NYC, Washington D.C., Providence, Philadelphia, Mineola (NY), Hartford, Baltimore, Newark (NJ), and Wilmington (DE). Thank you to everyone who submitted public comments or attended the hearings to speak on behalf of more and better bike parking, convenient, expanded bicycle roll-on service, and critical improvements for complete corridors – shared-use trails along active rail lines, highways, utility corridors, or waterways. We hope that Amtrak’s NEC will use our input to improve multi-modal transit for ECG users throughout our corridor.

We are offering TWO awesome Week a Year (WAY) bike tours in 2016! In addition to our regularly-scheduled WAY tour from Raleigh, North Carolina, to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, this fall, we are also offering a tour from the Canadian border in Calais to Portland, Maine, this summer. You can participate in both tours for a reduced rate!

Our Week a Year Tours explore a 300 to 350 mile section of the East Coast Greenway each year. They are led by ECGA staff and Trustees and are supported by a professional bicycle mechanic, a SAG vehicle, and a truck to bring riders’ gear from hotel to hotel. WAY Tours are our largest fundraising events, as tour riders raise funds or donate to support development of the East Coast Greenway. We hope you can join us for one or both of our 2016 tours! More information about the Tours and how to register can be found here.
