Welcome to the East Coast Greenway in North Carolina
The Wilmington Riverwalk. From big cities to towns – through rolling hills of pine, oak, and hickory forests, farmlands, and cypress swamps to the coastal beaches – the East Coast Greenway is the best way to see the natural and cultural variety of central and eastern North Carolina! In North Carolina, the current route of the East Coast Greenway passes through the Piedmont cities of Durham and Raleigh, splits the Sandhills, and then enters Fayetteville. It then runs across the Coastal plane and explores the port city of Wilmington. In addition to this main route, the alternate Historic Coastal route extends south from Virginia on the Dismal Swamp Canal Trail and follows the North Carolina coast more closely, linking Greenville and Jacksonville before heading into Wilmington to join the spine route.
