The 13-mile Hudson River Greenway in Manhattan is the longest segment of Greenway in New York. The 44-mile route through New York passes through a highly urbanized area and yet has the highest percentage of completed ECG trail of any Greenway state! This route is an experience not to be missed: for visitors and locals alike, traveling through New York on safe, green, recreational paths may be the best way to see the city. The northern end of the route in New York begins in Westchester and connects to NYC via the Shore Road Greenway and continues onto the Pelham Parkway Greenway. From the Pelham Parkway Greenway, the ECG travels north along the Bronx River Greenway and connects to the Mosholu Greenway through the Bronx River Forest. From the Mosholu, the route connects to a Greenway in Van Cortlandt Park and exits the park on Broadway. From Broadway, the route uses on road connections and the Broadway Bridge to link to the Hudson River Greenway near Dyckman Street. The route then travels for 13 miles down the Hudson River Greenway where users can link to ferry service at World Financial Center or Pier 11 to continue their journey into New Jersey. 62% of the route through New York is on traffic-free trails. In Manhattan, 90% of the route is traffic free. The East Coast Greenway in New York follows two separate routes, eastern and western, which both end in downtown Manhattan and utilize NY Waterway ferry service to connect to the East Coast Greenway in New Jersey. As more off-road pathways are completed, we will incorporate these paths into the ECG route to give our users an optimal experience. At the same time, the NY Committee will continue working to make the eastern and western routes 100% road-separated, traffic-free pathways. Ensuring the safety and comfortable use of our current travel route and continuing to work to complete our eastern and western routes through New York will be our top priorities in the immediate future.
