Highlights of the Summit included the Friday bicycle ride to Sullivan's Island where participants experienced great local greenway segments including the Ravenel Bridge over the Cooper River. Friday evening, guests enjoyed a reception and a beautiful sunset at the Maritime Center on the Charleston harbor. On Saturday, attendees heard from speakers including Dr. J. Herman Blake, Acting Executive Director of the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor Commission and Jean Crow Crowther, Associate at Alta Planning + Design. Presentations and reports from trail staff and state representatives also covered highlights from the East Coast Greenway route from Maine to Florida. A record number of trail designations were also reviewed and approved by the Trail Council including 22 spine trails and 4 complementary trail segments totaling over 50 miles.
The annual ECGA meeting also included the approval of new and renewing Board of Trustee members. New candidates elected to join the Board included Brandon Douglass of New York, Ellen Johnson of Pennsylvania and Tom Kaiden of Virginia. Two Board members were also elected to serve an additional term: Anne Maleady of Massachusetts and Larry Silver of Pennsylvania. Attendees were also treated to a 10th anniversary slide show from the inaugural End-to-End Bicycle Tour of the East Coast Greenway held in 2004. Presentation slides
