2022 NYC-to-PHL Ride highlighted by new perks, route updates

Building on a successful debut in August 2021, the East Coast Greenway Alliance and ride production partners Global Impact Productions have added several new features - ranging from finisher medals to a new finish location - to elevate this year’s New York City-to-Philadelphia Greenway Ride to the next level.

Set for May 14-15, the 2-day, 125-mile ride supports continued development of the East Coast Greenway in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

“There is no better way to explore this region than on a bicycle,” East Coast Greenway Active Events Manager Jonathan Pauley said. “Riders will experience two iconic cities, the charm of Princeton, New Jersey, and miles of beautiful Garden State greenways. We’re excited to again share this event with hundreds of passionate cyclists riding to grow the East Coast Greenway.”

Participants will depart Liberty State Park on the morning of Saturday, May 14. Following an overnight stop in Princeton, the journey will conclude Sunday, May 15, finishing at Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing in Philadelphia. Riders will have access to food and drink at rest stop oases throughout both days of the event, as well as breakfast and lunch on day one and breakfast and a finish celebration on day two. All participants will receive a custom NYC-to-PHL Ride T-shirt and finisher medal.

Thanks to the support of our partners at the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, resurfacing is ongoing along the D&R Canal State Park Towpath following major flooding in the area in late 2021. Ride organizers anticipate that resurfacing along this portion of the NYC-to-PHL Greenway Ride route should be nearly complete in advance of this year’s event.

5 reasons to ride v2

New additions to the 2022 ride include:

New finish location: This year’s ride will finish at Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing on the Delaware River in Center City Philadelphia. With up-close views of the iconic Ben Franklin Bridge and within walking distance of Penn's Landing, this location will allow for riders to experience more of the city’s East Coast Greenway network, in particular the rapidly developing Delaware River Trail. Participants will also experience the iconic Schuylkill River Trail en route to the finish.

Go for the gold (or silver or bronze): For the first time, all participants will receive a specially designed two-sided finisher’s medal featuring a custom design and recycled bicycle components.

Cheesecake to cheesesteak: In 2022, it won’t just be a tagline! In addition to the outstanding food and drinks available at the start, finish and oases, we plan to offer New York cheesecake at the start of the ride at Liberty State Park, and Philly cheesesteaks at the finish. Come hungry and ready to ride.

New oasis on day two: Ride back in time! This year’s ride will feature a history-making oasis on day two, the 1719 William Trent House, which is the oldest building in Trenton, New Jersey. This stop will be the first opportunity to refuel as you pedal to Philadelphia.

Look good while supporting the ride: Once again, we have limited-edition NYC-to-PHL Greenway Ride jerseys, jackets and socks from Primal Wear available for pre-order with any remaining items for sale on-site. New for 2022, water bottles from Specialized and performance T-shirts from CRAFT also will be available. All participants will receive an event T-shirt at the finish, featuring two icons of New York City and Philadelphia, Lady Liberty and the Rocky statue.
