From our executive director: New Year's resolutions

We just completed one of our best years yet, attracting almost $200 million in public investment in the East Coast Greenway and seeing visits to our route climb to more than 30 million walks, bike rides, and runs annually. Thanks to the generosity of people like you, we hit record levels of support that put us in a strong position as 2020 begins.

And now it's New Year's resolution time. Personal fitness is always a goal, with plenty of experiences planned along our corridor. My highlight for 2020 will be our inaugural group ride from New York City to Philadelphia on May 16-17 - consider registering today to join me before our limited number of campsites and hotel rooms sell out. Training and riding 130 miles is a great way to maintain a healthy weight. But you'll also be contributing to our biggest fundraiser ever, with the goal of improving the Greenway along our most populated corridor.

How can we leverage our events and programs to most effectively scale up our impact and meet challenges such as rising obesity in our country and rising carbon emissions globally? We will explore strategies to accelerate Greenway development this year as we develop our next strategic plan to lift up the East Coast Greenway as a key infrastructure investment for our 15 states and our nation's capital. We will also be leveraging the support of philanthropists through planned giving for the long-term and greater appeals to individuals, foundations, and businesses whose means have grown with the recent rise in equities.

And finally, living our values is another key goal for me personally and for our organization. I want for us to become a model not just of effectiveness but also of collaborative spirit toward an equitable future marked by unity. We will do our best to appeal to universal values that rise above the divisive political rhetoric that will be filling the airwaves this year.

Together, we can build on recent success in this new year full of promise!

Dennis
