Two coordinators hired to accelerate Greenway in Southeast

Two veteran bike/pedestrian and greenway advocates are joining the East Coast Greenway Alliance staff this month with the goal of accelerating Greenway development in the Southeast. Brent Buice (above, left) will serve as our South Carolina & Georgia Coordinator and Paul Haydt (right) as Florida Coordinator.

“These effective advocates give us the capacity to engage all of our communities throughout the Southeast. And the timing is perfect, right before two major programs — the East Coast River Relay and our first-ever Southeast Greenways & Trails Summit in October,” says Executive Director Dennis Markatos-Soriano.

Buice served as executive director of the nonprofit Georgia Bikes for the last six years, working to promote and improve bicycling for transportation and recreation throughout the state. His leadership drove impressive growth in the organization and made a big impact throughout the state. He lives “car-light” in Savannah's historic district and enjoys exploring the city's neighborhoods, squares, and parks on foot and by bicycle.

Haydt is no stranger to the East Coast Greenway, having served on our Greenway Council, Florida’s State Committee, and on our Board of Trustees. For two decades he worked with the St. Johns River Water Management District to restore watersheds throughout northeast Florida. He is based just south of the East Coast Greenway’s oldest city, St Augustine.

"I'm thrilled to welcome Brent and Paul as the two newest full-time additions to our team,” says Director of Greenways Programs Niles Barnes. “They both share a passion for the East Coast Greenway and a track record of success necessary to advance the Greenway in the Southeast.”
