From our executive director: Stepping up our national engagement

Executive Director Dennis Markatos-Soriano, third from left, joined a national gathering of regional greenway advocates hosted by the Pennsylvania Environmental Council in March 2018. The group launched the National Alliance for Trails and Greenways, a network of partners who can learn from each other to accelerate progress across the country.

Greenway momentum continues to pick up. While many of our team members were in Washington D.C. to attend the National Bike Summit last week, we learned the outstanding news that the U.S. Department of Transportation awarded a critical $12 million grant to help complete the Greenway in Pennsylvania. We also met with federal officials at the Department of Interior to complement our key partnerships with state and local leaders.

Days later, I was part of a national gathering of regional advocates hosted by our friends at the Pennsylvania Environmental Council. Together, we launched the National Alliance for Trails and Greenways, a network to learn from each other and leverage our strengths to accelerate progress throughout the East Coast Greenway and across the country.

On top of our great regional summits like our New England Bike-Walk Summit next month, I look forward to seeing what our federal engagement can achieve in the years ahead.
