July photo contest winner: Amber Yash, Florida Keys

Amber Yash shot this photo—our July 2017 photo contest winner— of her loaded bike in the Florida Keys, just before the Seven Mile Bridge.

Massage therapist Amber Yash and her chiropractor husband, Luis Rojas, worked for years at their joint practice in Douglas, Georgia. But this winter, they sold the practice and headed off on their bikes for the East Coast Greenway.

"After years of helping others learn how to live a healthier life, we have decided to take a leap of faith, sell most of our material possessions, and live bicycling around the world," Yash writes on their website, thehealthytourists.com. Soon after, she shot this month's winning photo contest selection of her fully loaded bike on the Greenway in the Florida Keys, just before the seven-mile bridge.

As of the Fourth of July weekend, the couple had made it to Boston, and they expect to hit the northern end of the Greenway, Calais, Maine, in two weeks.

"Don't wait until you think you have everything planned out and ready; just ride and plan along the way," Yash reports. "Our hosts from warmshowers.org and couchsurfing.com have been so welcoming and have opened up their homes and hearts to us. There have been tough days, but this is an opportunity of a lifetime that we didn't want to pass up. We feel a certain sense of freedom and accomplishment while riding our bikes over the last few months."
